Markus has worked with First Nations in litigation since joining the firm in 2016, bringing 20 plus years of litigation experience to work for our clients. His work includes seeking resolution in favour of our clients in litigation and administrative law, including enforcing Crown constitutional obligations, First Nations harvesting, employment litigation, elections disputes and Treaties.
Markus’ litigation experience includes arguing cases at all levels of Court in Manitoba and the Federal Court as well as administrative tribunals. The long and winding road that brought Markus to the team at Jerch Law includes a wide breadth of experience and skills from his years of experience as litigation counsel in several Winnipeg law firms as well as policy and economics work in government.
Born and raised in Winnipeg, Markus studied economics for six years, earning a master’s degree from McGill University. For the next six years, he worked for the Government of Manitoba. In the Finance Department, he worked on provincial tax policy and federal-provincial fiscal relations. In the Environment Department, Markus worked on environmental taxes and economic instruments to protect the environment.
