Jerchlaw - Associate
James obtained his law degree from the University of Manitoba’s Robson Hall School of Law in 2013. Prior to law school James obtained a B.A. (Hons.) from University of Manitoba in 2006 with a double major in Economics and Political Studies.
In law school James focussed his passion for advocacy in two primary areas of study beneficial to Indigenous People: environmental law and Aboriginal law - particularly land claims, water rights, hydro-electric development and natural resources. James also extended his breadth of study by taking the clinical family law program for a practical focus.
James is just as comfortable on the land in resource harvesting as he is engaged in political debate or researching the law and government policy. James’ work in consulting for Indigenous Peoples and on environmental matters for several years with a local research firm was preceded by operating his own business. James’ business and consulting experience is driven by his roots and passion which stems from many years of youth in the harvesting of the land in rural Manitoba, including everything from working as a farm hand to managing a processing plant.
James is honoured to begin his law career serving the interests of Indigenous People and communities.
